The Mercer Island Islanders swim team captured first place at the KingCo swim & dive championships on Feb. 3 at Kamiak High School.
The Islanders, who compiled a staggering 685.5 team points, dominated the meet. Skyline finished in second place with 576 total points. Newport finished in third place with 517.5 team points. Mercer Island’s James Richardson earned first place in the 100 free and 200 free. Richardson set a new meet record in the 100 free, clocking a time of 47.11. Gabriel Neale finished in first place in the 1-meter dive event. The 200 free relay quartet of Ethan Schwartz, Killian Riley, Carson Coe and Nate Robinson nabbed a first place finish. The 400 free relay team consisting of Oliver Hoff, Richardson, Robinson and Riley registered a first place finish, clocking a time of 3:11.71 which was a meet record. The Islanders will compete in the Class 3A Sea-King District meet on Feb 9-10 at Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island.
