District selects new director of learning services

Jamie Prescott has been selected as director of Learning Services for the Mercer Island School District, Superintendent Donna Colosky announced. The appointment is effective July 1 and is subject to approval by the Mercer Island School Board.

“We are excited to welcome Jamie to the district central office team,” Colosky said. “Her passion for student learning and teacher growth, combined with her years of leadership both as a teacher and administrator at the high school makes her an ideal fit for this position.”

Prescott has been an associate principal at MIHS since 2012, coordinating many areas, including assessment, intervention, technology and ASB/activities. She was previously an English, journalism and leadership teacher at the school for 10 years and is an MIHS graduate.

She received a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Puget Sound, administrative credential from Western Washington University and executive leadership credentials from City University.

Prescott will succeed Jennifer Wright, who is leaving the district in June after 25 years of service as a teacher and administrator.

Enroll now for 2018-19 kindergarten

Kindergarten enrollment is now underway for the 2018-19 school year. Families are asked not to delay completing their online registration packet.

“Although kindergarten doesn’t begin until September, it will assist the district greatly if families would enroll their children soon so that we can staff appropriately for the numbers of students registered,” said Assistant Superintendent Fred Rundle. “Given the shortage in the teacher job market, we want to be able to hire the very best candidates as early as possible.”

Children must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2018 to enroll for the 2018-19 school year.

Elementary students will enroll in their home school. To verify which school your student will attend, based on your home address, links to the boundary map and transportation E-Link are online. Contact the Transportation Department at 206-236-3335 for questions about school boundaries.
