Mercer Island teams advance to Destination Imagination state event

A record 12 teams representing MI schools qualified for the state tournament.

A record 12 teams representing Mercer Island schools have qualified for the Destination Imagination state tournament.

The teams qualified by virtue of their performance at the Regional DI Tournament held in Auburn on Feb. 24. Participants represented all four elementary schools, the middle school, and high school.

Destination Imagination (DI) is an educational program in which student teams solve a variety of open-ended challenges and present their solutions at tournaments. The state tournament will be held March 24 in East Wenatchee.

“We were very proud of all of our teams and the solutions that were performed,” said Mark Headlee, West Mercer Elementary teacher who manages several of the teams.

The following teams have qualified for the state competition:

Fine Arts

Elementary, Second Place “Brave Cowards” Team Manager: David Baxter

This team also received a Renaissance Award for Outstanding Set Design.

Scientific
