A Mercer Island City Council member and Bellevue School Board member are running to fill the shoes of retired 41st District Rep. Judy Clibborn, while other incumbents representing the Island are looking to retain their seats.

Those were among the developments as candidates signed up to run for state and federal offices on ballots in King County. The filing deadline was May 18.

Rep. Tana Senn, of Mercer Island, wants to continue representing the 41st Legislative District in Position 1. She will run against Libertarian Nathaniel Deily, of Bellevue, and Republican Tim Cruickshank, also of Bellevue.

Democrat Wendy Weiker, of Mercer Island, Democrat My-Linh Thai, of Bellevue, and Republican Michael Appleby, of Bellevue, signed up to run for Position 2. Appleby challenged Clibborn for the seat in 2016.

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, of Bellevue, is running again to represent Washington’s 9th District in Congress. Democrat Sarah Smith and Republican Doug Basler, both from Kent, also entered the race.

Libertarian Mike Luke, of Lynnwood, and 27 others filed for the U.S. Senate seat held by Democrat Sen. Maria Cantwell, who is pursuing a fourth term. Luke previously ran in 2016 against U.S. Sen. Patty Murray. About an hour before the filing deadline on Friday, former Washington State GOP Chair Susan Hutchison joined the race.

The primary is Aug. 7 and the general election is Nov. 6.
