A Bellevue resident jumped in his pleasure cruiser to rescue a man from a boat in flames today on Lake Washington between Bellevue and Mercer Island, according to the Bellevue Fire Department.
The rescued man had no life-threatening injuries, although he was taken to Overlake Hospital, according to Bellevue Fire Department spokesman Eric Keenan.
“I don’t know if I saw any burns at all,” Keenan said. “Singed hair is all I saw.”
The man who rescued the victim lives on Lakehurst Lane in Bellevue.
Neither of the men’s names are known at this time.
Crews from the Seattle and Mercer Island police departments controlled the blaze with fire fighting boats around 12:30 p.m.
The burned vessel, a cabin cruiser roughly 25 feet long, was towed to Newcastle Beach Park.
The owner said he opened the engine compartment while the boat was running rough, and the compartment burst into flames, according to Keenan.
