Arrests

A 42-year-old Island man was arrested for Driving Under Intoxication on Jan. 24, after being stopped for taking an illegal left turn off I-90. The officer noticed alcohol on the man’s breath and told him to take a sobriety test, which he failed. The officer transported the driver to the Mercer Island Police Station, where he recorded a breathalyzer test of .086 and .092. The man was transported home, and his vehicle was impounded.

A 63-year-old man was arrested for Driving Under Intoxication on Jan. 24, after running a stop sign at a Town Center intersection. According to the police report, the man appeared to be severely intoxicated and had a very strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He refused, however, to take a sobriety test, forcing the officer to place him under arrest and transport him to the Mercer Island Police Station for processing. Once at the station, the driver refused to take a breathalyzer test, and he would not sign police paperwork. Officers impounded the man’s vehicle, and he was transported home.

An Island man was pulled over for driving with expired tabs on Jan. 24. The officer found that the man was also driving on a suspended license with two failures to appear in court. The officer arrested the man and impounded his vehicle.

An Island man was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Jan. 24. The subject was pulled over at a traffic stop on North Mercer Way, cited and released at the Mercer Island Police Station. Police impounded his vehicle and called a cab to take him home.

An 18-year-old Island male was arrested for Driving Under Intoxication on Jan. 25. The driver admitted to drinking alcohol but refused to take a sobriety test. He was arrested for investigation of Driving Under Intoxication and was transported to the Mercer Island Police Station for blood alcohol testing. Police later released him to a sober adult.

While assisting a stranded motorist along I-90 on Jan. 26, a Mercer Island police officer discovered that the driver had a warrant for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The officer arrested the subject and transported him to the Issaquah Police Station. Upon searching the subject’s vehicle, the officer found unlabeled pills in the driver’s side door.

Theft

A member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church reported that three to four bottles of Hogue wine were stolen from the church annex on Jan. 25. According to the police report, somebody entered the building through an unlocked sliding door between Jan. 18 and Jan. 24. Two doors inside the building were forced open, damaging two separate door jams.

A Jeep Cherokee belonging to an Island resident was reported stolen on Jan. 25. According to the incident report, the vehicle was stolen from the female’s residence in the 4400 block of Ferncroft Road. It had been left in the driveway with the keys in the car. The vehicle was later recovered in a hit-and-run in Seattle. It was towed to the Mercer Island Police Station for evidence.

A 45-year-old man reported that $5,000 in cash had been stolen from his house on Jan. 28. According to the incident report, the money went missing over the weekend of Jan. 23 to Jan. 25. Suspecting that either his son or his son’s friends stole the money, the man went to his son’s school to look into the matter. A friend of the victim’s son was interviewed by the school principal and admitted to stealing the money. The youth was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center by Seatac Police. After being advised of his rights at the center, the boy confessed to the crime.

Mischief

A member of St. Monica Church reported that somebody had tagged the outside of the church gymnasium with spray paint on Jan. 25. The tagging occurred sometime between Jan. 23 and Jan. 25.

A transient was found rummaging through garbage cans in the 7400 block of West Mercer Way on Jan. 26. Police warned the man against trespassing and advised him to stay on public roadways in the area. The officers also confiscated a marine flare pistol from the man.
