Mercer Island had 84 participants in the 2013 Seattle Marathon and Half- Marathon Sunday, Dec. 1.
Competing against the 2,123 marathon entries, Mercer Island’s Paul Barach finished 123 overall, crossing the finish line with a time of 3 hours, 18 minutes, and 15 seconds. Danica Knievel finished 173 in the women’s race and 736 overall with a time of 4 hours, 1 minute, and 49 seconds. Seattle’s Uli Steidl won the annual race yet again with a time of 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 24 seconds for his 10th Seattle Marathon victory, and Seattle’s Sheila Croft was the women’s winner with a time of 2 hours, 58 minutes and 25 seconds.
Competing against 5,809 entries in the half-marathon, Mercer Island’s Carl Garrett finished 11th overall with a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes and 9 seconds. Rhonda Glass finished 207 overall and first in the women’s 50-54 division with a time of 1 hour, 35 minutes and 18 seconds. Seattle’s Matthew McClement won with a time of 1 hour, 11 minutes and 24 seconds.
