Mercer Island’s Northwest Yeshiva High School recently announced that it began construction on a new outdoor multi-sport court at its campus on 90th Avenue S.E..

Workers broke ground on July 15 for a new court. The facility will provide Yeshiva High School students and faculty with a collegiate regulation-size basketball court, complete with six hoops and markings for volleyball and other sports.

School Director of Advancement Melissa Rivkin said the work should be finished by the end of the summer and the facilities inaugurated on Sept. 13.

Ninety-six students were enrolled at the school last year, and Rivkin said the 2.2 acre campus has enough room to modestly expand for its growing student body. The school building itself is only 16,000 suare-feet and there is no gym.

“We had a basketball court on the ground but it’s not in good condition,” she said. “We’d like to upgrade it and make it a point of pride for the students and the school.”

The building of the court was made possible by donors who gave around $68,000 toward the Fund a Need campaign during this spring’s Grand Gala Dinner and Auction at the Olympia Fairmont Hotel in Seattle.
