A man stole 13 glass milk containers from QFC at 7823 S.E. 28th Street and returned them for a cash refund of $24.05 after 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 15. An employee saw a stack of milk crates outside, behind the store, before the suspect’s transaction.
After the transaction, the employee found the milk crates empty and strewn around. Another employee remembered seeing the suspect return five or six milk containers two nights prior to the incident.
The store has video footage of the incident, recorded by a surveillance camera.
Aug. 11
Accident: A Bellevue driver was cited for tailgating in the 8800 block of S.E. 40th Street and his vehicle was towed after he rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped behind another vehicle at a stop sign. The collision, caused by driver inattention, occurred at 3:51 p.m.
Arrest: Police arrested a 28-year-old Mercer Island man at 7:06 p.m. in the 4000 block of Island Crest Way. He was driving with a suspended license and was booked into jail for outstanding warrants.
Aug. 12
Accident: A vehicle struck the side of an adjacent parked vehicle at 11:13 a.m. while backing out of a parking spot in the Starbucks lot at 7695 S.E. 27th Street. The vehicle became stuck and rammed the other vehicle a second time while pulling forward. The vehicle then left the scene. One witness of the incident obtained the license plate number.
Theft: Someone stole a lawn mower, washer/dryer unit and steel water tank from a property in the 5200 block of 88th Avenue S.E. sometime after July 15. Two brothers reported the theft after working on the property, which belonged to their mother. The theft was likely related to a recent burglary at the same property, according to the police report.
DUI: A vehicle crashed in the 2400 block of 84th Avenue S.E. after 11:08 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found the engine running in the damaged vehicle, the door open and the driver, 30, lying on the ground nearby. She was intoxicated and gave a false name to police. After recanting and giving her real name, she refused field sobriety tests and was arrested at 11:36 p.m. Her vehicle was impounded.
Aug. 13
Theft: A Mercer Island woman reported that $550 in cash was missing from the Lice Knowing You business in the 9700 block of S.E. 36th Street. There is one suspect in the case.
Trespass: A 59-year-old Mercer Island man continued residing in his condominium after being evicted by the King County Sheriff’s Office on July 27. He was warned not to return without a brokerage firm representative of the property owner, and an eviction notice and trespass warning were posted on the door. The suspect was arrested at 5:03 p.m. and booked into the Issaquah Jail.
Aug. 14
Animal complaint: A 60-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that she was charged by an off-leash dog, which bit her in the crotch at 10:30 a.m. at Luther Burbank Park. The woman refused aid at first, but then changed her mind.
Disturbance: Police responded to a disturbance at 8:50 p.m. in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. after receiving a report of a mother, 44, yelling at her children. The woman admitted being upset and throwing items, but the children said she did not hit them. There was no evidence of physical abuse.
Aug. 15
Malicious mischief: Suspects drew faces and diamonds with black marker on walls at West Mercer Elementary School in the 4100 block of 81st Avenue S.E. sometime after Aug. 13. No witnesses are listed in the case.
Scooter found: An 83-year-old Mercer Island woman found a scooter at 2:27 p.m. in her yard in the 7400 block of S.E. 24th Street and turned it into the MIPD.
Aug. 16
Accident: A vehicle failed to yield the right of way in an intersection and struck another vehicle completing a right-hand turn at 10 a.m. in the 8200 block of 84th Avenue S.E. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Police cited the driver of the first vehicle, a 50-year-old Mercer Island woman, for failing to yield. There were no injuries.
Bike theft: A speed bike worth $800 was stolen from the Mercer Island Park and Ride on North Mercer Way sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The bike had been locked and secured at the park and ride.
