Mercer Island boys water polo team ends regular season on a high note

The Islanders begin their postseason with a state tournament match against Newport on Nov. 14.

After a successful San Diego trip, the Mercer Island boys water polo team dove into its last week of league play before the state water polo playoffs.

The Islanders went 2-1 in their last three games of the season, securing wins over Ingram and Sammamish/Interlake and a close loss to Bainbridge Island. The last game against Sammamish/Interlake was a special night as the team honored the six seniors on the varsity team. The seniors honored were: Oliver Schaaf (co-captain), Jacob Swerland (co-captain), Jack Shoop, Justin Jradi, Alex Tiscornia and Al Vollengraaf. They ended their regular season of Mercer Island boys water polo with a 9-8 win.

The team will practice hard next week and then will enter the state tournament as the No.5 seed and will face Newport in the first round at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Curtis High School. The tournament will continue Friday and wrap up on Saturday, Nov. 16.
