Randy Humphries passed away Friday January 17th, 4 days after his 72nd birthday, from complications from battling cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Born in Knoxville, TN, he spent much of his childhood in Grass Valley/Nevada City, CA., graduating from Nevada Union High in 1966. He attended UC Berkeley (Cal) on an athletic/academic scholarship and was a 3-year starting quarterback for the California Golden Bears football team. He met his future wife Cathy (Cleave) at Cal. They married in 1971 and moved to the Pacific NW and settled on Mercer Island where they raised their four children.
Most of his career was in commercial real estate and office leasing. His favorite pastime was raising his kids and supporting their involvements in sports, theatre, and school. He expanded his ‘sports fan’ interests to crew, water polo and swimming for his children and coached their soccer teams. He drove them to countless rehearsals, early morning practices and competitions. When the kids were young, he served on the vestry of Emmanuel Church on MI and was actively involved in supporting their spiritual life and involvement in that community.
In 2017, Randy and Cathy retired and joined their daughter Jane and family in a move across country to Andover, MA to remain actively involved in the lives of their little grandsons. It was a big step to leave Seattle after 46 years, yet a gift that brought much joy.
Randy is survived by wife Cathy, daughter Rebecca of Southworth, son Daniel currently of Amsterdam, daughter Jane (Rick Cardoso) of Andover, MA, and daughter Ellie (Brian Wisniewski) of Monterey, CA. He adored his 4 grandsons: Eric and Will Cardoso (6 and 4) and Kit and Cal Wisniewski (2 and 5 months). He is also survived by his sisters, Madge and Gail, and their families.
A small private family service was held at Christ Church in Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Randy may be made to Christ Church Children’s Center, 33 Central St, Andover, MA 01810.
