City officials announced in a press release today the while “Safe and Sane” fireworks are allowed on Mercer Island, they are only allowed specifically on July 4 (Saturday) between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m.

“Only legal devices may be used, and fireworks are never allowed in city parks or on school district land,” the release states.

The release notes that there will be no public fireworks shows on the Island this year. Gatherings larger than five people outside a household group still aren’t allowed under Gov. Jay Inslee’s phased approach to reopening the state as a result of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

Masks are still required statewide in public outdoor settings when six-foot distancing isn’t possible, the release adds.
