Three board and commission positions are vacant on Mercer Island, and the city is looking for volunteers.

The council is seeking applicants to fill up positions on the arts council, the design commission and the utility board. Applications for all three positions are due at 4 p.m. Aug. 21.

The arts council position term expires May 31, 2024. Council meetings are typically held the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. This council, per a city press release, operates with “a mission to nurture, promote and support high-quality arts and culture activities for the community.”

The design commission functions as an advisory board to the city council and has regulatory power over anything related to Mercer Island’s multi-family residential, commercial and office areas. The vacant position on this commission expires May 31, 2023. Typically, the design commission, which comprises seven people, meets the second and fourth Wednesday as needed every month at 7 p.m.

The vacant utility board position’s term will last through May 31, 2021. The group is an advisory board to the council for anything pertaining to utilities on Mercer Island. The seven-person board usually meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
