Annie Steiner, lifelong
resident of Mercer Island,
lost her 12 year battle with
cancer on August 13th, 2020.
She died at home in care of
friends and family.
Annie was born on
2/14/60. It was fitting that
she was born on Valentine’s
Day, because there was never
a kinder, more loving spirit.
Everything she did came
from the heart.
She lived in her childhood home and
continued the Steiner “open-door policy”
so that everyone felt like her home was
theirs. She kept and loved many dogs
throughout her life and everyone’s dogs
were welcome in her home as well. Most
of her friendships dated back to childhood
and school days. She cherished and
nurtured those friendships throughout
her life. The spouses and children of those
friends also came to know and love Annie
for her generosity and deep friendship
and came to love her and think of her as
family.
She was a tie-dye artist and outfitted
anyone who was interested in tie-dye
shirts and other accessories. The south end
Mercer Island QFC dedicated Tuesdays to
Annie, officially calling it “Team Annie/
Tie-dye Tuesdays”.
Annie cared for both of her parents
so that they were able to live at home in
their last years. She replaced her mother,
Charlotte Steiner, on the
Mercer Island Reporter
Christmas card edition
for several years. She also
took care of Mercer Island
Reporter’s Peggy Reynolds
at home as Peggy’s health
declined.
Annie was always
there for people when they
needed her. She was an
incredible cook and catered
many affairs for friends and
family throughout the years. Holidays and
birthdays were often hosted at her home
and attracted large gatherings.
Annie loved to travel, take cruises and
go camping with family and friends. She
was very generous and when she traveled,
loved shopping for gifts for friends and
family at home. She also loved to gamble
at local casinos, Reno and Las Vegas,
treating friends and family to meals and
lodging “earned” there.
Annie was preceded in death by her
parents, her father The Honorable Samuel
J. Steiner and her mother, Mercer Island
Times Columnist Charlotte Steiner. Annie
is survived by her partner Andrew Taimi,
brother Harry Steiner, sister-in-law Teresa
Squillace and beloved niece Ruby Steiner.
Due to Covid-19, the family will have a
private graveside service. In lieu of flowers,
please send donations to Seattle Cancer
Care Alliance.
