Council extends comprehensive plan docketing deadline

The Mercer Island City Council took action at its Oct. 6 meeting to extend the deadline for 2021 Comprehensive Plan and development code amendments to Nov. 2. This will allow additional time for the public to submit proposed amendments by 5 p.m. on that day.

Council requests further study of contracting out fire services

In an effort to explore possible efficiency improvements as a response to the city’s documented financial challenges, the city council authorized City Manager Jessi Bon and Fire Chief Steve Heitman to conduct a Fire Services Study as part of the city’s 2019-2020 work plan.

At its Oct. 6 meeting, the council discussed the final Fire Services Study and the possibility of seeking cost savings and operational efficiencies by contracting out fire services to a nearby provider. This budget proposal will be discussed at the Nov. 2 council meeting.
