Mercer Island High School sophomore Evan Smith has attained the rank of Eagle Scout upon completing his Eagle Board of Review on Dec. 3.

As part of his Eagle rank, Smith completed a project at the Mercer Island VFW. He led scouts over two days as they repaired the path behind the VFW, laid new gravel, cleaned up the front section and mulched.

Smith, who began scouting in first grade, served in various leadership roles over the years and ascended to Senior Patrol Leader in 2020. This year, Smith organized the first virtual overnight camp out, Zoom weekly meetings and advancement for his troop.
