Mercer Island firefighters of IAFF Local 1762 have endorsed Benson Wong for Position 6 on the Mercer Island City Council. They voted unanimously on Sept. 25 to endorse Wong for the Council seat. Through an endorsement process that both Wong and opponent Rich Erwin completed, Wong demonstrated that he holds public safety in the highest regard, according to the press release, which stated, “The firefighters observed and appreciate his pragmatic approach to problem solving.”

The statement continued: “Mr. Wong will be an advocate for the safety of the community and the people that protect it. He holds values and beliefs that the firefighters feel would be a true asset while serving on the City Council.”
