Haverford College sophomore goalkeeper and Mercer Island grad Sam Miller was named the Centennial Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week Monday, Sept. 15.
Miller posted his first shutout of the season Saturday, Sept. 13 against Lebanon Valley with nine saves in Haverford’s 1-0 win. The Fords had to play 10 on 10 for the game’s final 22 minutes, as both teams saw a player sent off with a red card. The Fords lost another player to a red card shortly after, playing the final 17 minutes down a man. Haverford’s Tejan Walcott scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute.
This is the second time Miller has received defensive player of the week honors, also earning recognition his freshman year. Last season, Miller appeared in nine games for Haverford, starting eight while recording 37 saves.
