Mercer Island police arrest man who was pointing BB gun at people

At about 12:30 p.m. April 13, Mercer Island police received reports of a man who was threatening people with a handgun while walking westbound in the 9000 block of Southeast 40th Street.

The suspect was reportedly pointing the gun at several people and passing vehicles, police report. When confronted by officers, the suspect dropped the gun in the street and began to walk away, police report. He was arrested without incident, and no injuries were reported, according to police.

Police later determined the gun was a realistic looking BB gun, and several replica firearms and ammunition were removed from the suspect’s residence.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for multiple counts of first-degree assault. Detectives are investigating.
