Mercer Island police responded to a report of an injured deer sitting off the road in the 8700 block of West Mercer Way on the morning of July 28 and established a safety perimeter to keep her safe, according to the city. The city consulted PAWS Wildlife Center and they advised to leave the deer undisturbed.
The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife was then called to the scene. “Since the animal was suffering, the deer had to be dispatched,” noted the city, which added that a police investigation showed that the deer had been struck by a car.
The city noted that this incident appears unrelated to any other recent deer incidents on the Island.
