The Mercer Island Girls Basketball Booster Club recently announced tryouts for the fall/winter select girls basketball season. Teams will be forming for girls in grades 5-8.
The tryout dates are set for 6-9 p.m. Oct. 1 and 12:30-3:30 p.m. Oct. 2, and the club is offering tune-up clinics to help prepare the players for tryouts from 6-7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29. All events will be held at the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club PEAK, 4120 86th Ave. SE.
“We’re excited to get the girls back into the gym this season,” said Lindsey Blaine, head coach of the Mercer Island High School (MIHS) varsity girls basketball team. “The select/feeder program is crucial to the success of our high school program, and we take great care to ensure the girls are well-coached from the elementary age up.”
Returning coaches include Erin McCaslin and Lawrence Wong, and the club welcomes Hannah (Lily) Franklin, a 2010 MIHS graduate who starred for the Islanders before continuing her basketball career at Emory University.
