Two Mercer Island residents were recently named to the 2010 1A All-State soccer team, which is voted on by high school coaches across the state.
Elise Wilcox, who is a senior at The Bush School in Seattle, was named a first team goalkeeper. Meredith Adams was named to the first team as a defender, as a freshman at the Overlake School in Redmond.
Bush was 24-3-2 during the 2010 fall season, while Overlake was 24-6-2 overall.
The two schools met for the state championship in November, with Bush beating Overlake, 1-0, for the title.
Wilcox also plays for the Eastside FC club, while Adams is a member of the Crossfire Premier program.

Island gymnasts find success at Battle in Seattle
Three Mercer Island gymnasts with the Emerald City Gymnastics club recently posted top finishes in the Battle in Seattle in mid-January. The meet featured almost 1,000 gymnasts from across the state.
Kendal Toy, a fifth-grader at Island Park, was first in her age group at level 7, earning an all-around score of 36.35. Toy also finished first in the floor and second in the beam exercises.
Mya Levin, a fourth-grader at Lakeridge, earned fourth in the level five age group with a 35.00 all-around score. She was fourth in the floor and beam competitions.
Sophia McGuffin, a third-grader at Lakeridge, was fourth in the level 4 age group, posting an all-around score of 35.40. She finished second in the bars and beam.
Islander named to All-American team
Mercer Island native and 2007 Mercer Island High School graduate Brian Chong was named to the NCAA Division III 2010 All-American team.
Chong, a junior who plays for Claremont McKenna College in California, also earned the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player of the year honors.
