Mercer Island High School’s girls varsity lacrosse team will continue its stellar season at the Girls High School Lacrosse National Championship tournament starting on June 29 at FSA Sports in Farmington, Connecticut.
In the invitation-only tournament for the top-rated national programs, the Islander state champs will compete in pool play on June 29 and 30 with more games awaiting on July 1 if they advance. According to the tournament website, each team is guaranteed to play four games, with the bracket winners advancing to the single-elimination phase and gunning for the national title.
“It will be a great experience for the girls to get some east coast exposure and help continue to put west coast lacrosse on the map. Our entire varsity team committed to attending, which speaks volumes about this group of young women,” said head coach Lyndsey Gillis.
MI defeated Issaquah, 15-3, to win the state championship on May 20 at the Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila. The Islanders notched a 15-1 overall record this season, scored 228 goals and conceded 68 goals.
