Regarding your article on the “abysmal” student body support of girls basketball, as one of my teenage daughters might say, “HELLOOOO … Did you miss something?” You thanked the band, the parents, the middle school kids and lamented the lack of flag dudes, students and crazy chanting “future frat kids.” Did you miss the 12 varsity cheerleaders dancing their hearts out? They were there, as they have been for EVERY basketball game this year, including boys, girls, home and away. They are there each week making signs for the players, decorating the lockers and placing posters in the hallway. These Varsity Cheerleaders support every sport on campus, entertain at assemblies and volunteer at community events. They are also Varsity athletes in their own right, claiming members of Varsity tennis, golf, swim team, water polo and gymnastics. These girls are amazing and do not deserve to be overlooked. So next time you rant about the lack of support of girls’ basketball, please don’t forget to thank the cheerleaders.
