The city of Mercer Island will hold its annual fall recycling event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 29 at city hall, 9611 SE 36th St.
People can safely dispose of old equipment, electronics, appliances and other household items, and free paper shredding will be offered onsite with a limit of five boxes per person. This popular event — which is cash only for any disposal fees required — regularly draws more than 700 visitors.
Household hazardous waste will not be accepted at the event, which is funded by Washington State Department of Ecology, King County Solid Waste Division and Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County.
For public health and safety, the city asks attendees to follow standard mask/glove COVID-19 protocols and pack items so they can be removed quickly.
The city’s food pantry will be accepting donations in the form of grocery gift cards ($10, $25 or $50), cash or credit card to be collected by volunteers from the Mercer Island Youth and Family Services Foundation.
