Anne Elizabeth MacLean, devoted wife of 60 years to James B. MacLean, passed away on Wednesday, September 7th at her home in Anacortes, Washington. She was eighty-two. Anne was born in Seattle March 5, 1940, to Thomas and Nelle Whyte. She grew up in Spee-Bi-Dah, an idyllic community on Port Susan within the Tulalip Indian Reservation. She graduated from Marysville High School in 1958 and then attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Anne met the love of her life, James MacLean while at- tending the University of Washington. They were married on December 5th, 1962, in Everett. She spent her first few months of marriage in New York while her husband continued his training as a physician and then moved back to Seattle where she started her family. She spent most of her life living on Mercer Island before retiring with her husband in Anacortes. Anne loved to spend time in her garden, enjoying the San Juan Islands, and loving her grandchildren. She is the beloved mother of three children and friend to countless people who loved her warmth and sensitivity.
Anne is survived by her husband, Dr. James MacLean, Jeffrey (Melanie) MacLean, John (Lisa) MacLean, Molly (Todd) Brown, her younger brother Thomas (Gayle) Whyte, and seven grandchildren: Cameron MacLean, Harrison MacLean, Maggie Brown, Emily MacLean, Claire Brown, Maren MacLean, and Avery MacLean. She will be always remembered as a warm, kind woman worthy of our love and respect. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12 noon on October 30th at the Mercer Island Community & Event Center. Memorials may be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance or Hospice of the Northwest.
