On September 20, 2022, Patricia Jean Cronyn (Pat) left us for heaven on the wings of angels. Pat was born on March 18, 1926, at Tacoma General Hospital to Charles and Teckla Davie. She grew up in La Grande, Washington and was a proud graduate of Eatonville High School. Pat was accepted to the University of Washington, where she graduated with a Bach- elor of Arts Degree in 1948. Shortly after graduation, she travelled in post-war Europe via bicy- cle with SITA (Students International) and witnessed first-hand the ravages of war throughout France and Italy. After returning to the states, she worked as an Assistant Buyer for Rhodes in Tacoma, then as an Assistant with a Seattle Architectural office. While still a student at the University of Washington, she met the love of her life, Foster Schott Cronyn, and they were married in August 1952.
Pat dedicated her life to her family and friends. She volunteered with the Girls Scouts, Cub and Boy Scouts as well as the library at Island Park Elementary School on Mercer Island. As a long-time Mercer Island resident, she volunteered as an election poll-worker for over 40 years and together with Fos, was a pillar of goodwill in their neighborhood. Growing up in La Grande gave Pat a lifelong love of the outdoors. With Fos, she taught her children to ski on the rope tows at Paradise, hiked and camped along mountain trails in the Cascades, swam in the waters of Lakes Chelan and Priest, and instilled in her children a deep appreciation for nature. In later years, she enjoyed canoeing and kayaking on Lake Washington and was an avid reader and gardener.
Pat spent her golden years traveling with Fos through Europe, Canada, Mexico and across the U.S., showing a spe- cial love for the annual family trips to Cabo San Lucas. Pat was an active member of the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church and loved to spend time in her yard, tending to her beloved rhododendrons, azaleas, fuchsias, and dahlias.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Douglas, John and Earl, her niece Karen, and her husband of 61-years. She is survived by daughters Maurene (Joe Albert) and Janene (Dermot Gilmartin), sons Foster (Mary Beth) and Mat- thew (Sam), and her loving grandchildren Heather, Shannon, Andrea, Sean, Foster, Clare, Reilly, Julia, and Connor, as well as five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister in-law, Anita Davie, and Anita’s children James, John, and Marilyn.
Services will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at Flintoft’s Funeral Home, at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services at the Alder Cemetery. Donations may be made in Pat’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or to your favorite charity.
