Mercer Island High School (MIHS) students Alexis Buchan and Andrew Howison have been named the November Rotary Islanders of the Month.
Instructor Shannon Tapp notes that Buchan is “a shining star and brings energy and passion to our program. MIHS in general doesn’t deserve her. She works hard, and has a positive attitude.”
The three-year DECA member has demonstrated flexibility, patience and growth in reacting to setbacks and overcoming obstacles, noted Tapp, adding, “Alexis surpasses my expectations, ALWAYS.”
According to instructor Joe Bryant, “If there was a Rotary Student of the Decade, I would nominate Andrew Howison. He personifies what Rotary and a community service mindset is all about.”
Howison’s immense school and community involvement includes serving on the school board for two years and leading the school radio station and its leadership group. Bryant added, in part: “Andrew goes All In with a passion and engagement level that exceeds expectations.”
