City crews are de-icing and sanding streets; some roads are closed / Island weather update

Mercer Island city crews have been de-icing and sanding streets following the city’s snow and ice response plan this morning.

According to the Mercer Island Police Department, the following roads are currently closed due to the inclement weather:

* Southeast 40th Street: 76th Avenue to West Mercer Way

* Southeast 70th Street: uphill from West Mercer Way

* Southeast 44th Street: 86th Avenue to Island Crest Way

* Southeast 72nd Street: uphill from West Mercer Way

* Southeast 53rd Street: from Island Crest Way down to East Mercer Way

* Southeast 68th Street: from Island Crest Way down to East Mercer Way

King County Metro service is suspended today and Recology service is canceled today, the city noted, adding, “Streets are very icy across the Island. If you must drive, take it slow and give our crews lots of space to work.”
