Dr. Robert Lewis passed peacefully on March 12 at home with family at his side. He was one of the longest living residents of Mercer Island, moving there in 1941 with his parents, Porter and Ruth Lewis. He practiced dentistry on the island for 37 years and retired in 1997. He was known for his compassion, skill, fairness, and sense of humor, which carried through until the end of his life.
Bob was a life long athlete, having skied, run marathons, and windsurfed into his seventies. He was also a prolific world traveller with visits to over 80 countries including Cuba, Iran, the Galapagos Islands, and North Korea. Bob volunteered doing dental treatment in Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Guatemala, Panama, and Costa Rica. He also volunteered on research projects in Peru, Chile, The Canary Islands, Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, and Easter Island, Throughout life, Bob was active in his church, East Shore Unitarian, and was a strong supporter of many liberal causes. He was relentlessly positive and kind and will be missed by the entire community. He was predeceased by his wife Gwen Lewis and second wife, Anne Corley. He is survived by his son, Dr. Chris Lewis, daughter, Robin Lewis West, grandson, Michael Lewis, daughter-in law Lisa Lewis, and stepchildren Mark Corley and Suzanne Roe.
