Mercer Island City Councilmember Craig Reynolds has announced his intent to seek re-election to city council.
“The city has made huge strides in the last few years, but there is more to do,” said Reynolds, who added: “I am proud to have played a leading role in revising the Town Center development code to encourage retail development, writing the city’s first financial management policy, and creating the city’s first Climate Action Plan (CAP). In addition, I was pleased to support placing a comprehensive, and ultimately successful, parks levy on the ballot. In my next term, I look forward to working on CAP implementation and the update of the city’s comprehensive plan, both of which will have significant long-term impacts on our future.”
Reynolds has had a 37-year career as an actuary focusing on understanding, forecasting and mitigating future financial risks. He is currently in the fourth year of his first term on the city council, and he previously served on the Mercer Island Planning Commission.
“I served with Craig for two years on the city council,” said Benson Wong, former Mercer Island mayor. “He is a dedicated and articulate leader, who uses an analytical and collaborative approach to solve problems and to move important issues forward. He is committed to doing what is best for Mercer Island.”
Brian Shiers, president of Mercer Island Mountain Biking Advocates, said, “I have worked with the city council in the last year on a plan to create a new bike park at Deane’s Children’s Park. Craig’s enthusiastic support for this project has been critical to our success. I am impressed with his efforts to listen to and address the concerns of all stakeholders.”
Reynolds and his wife Jane have three grown children. They have lived on Mercer Island since 2012 in a home they share with Jane’s mother.
