MISD partners with Ridwell for plastic film recycling event

For Earth Month, the Mercer Island School District is partnering with Ridwell to collect and recycle plastic film from district families.

The district is asking families to begin saving plastic film now to gear up for drop-off of the recyclables from May 15-19 at their schools. Items include Ziploc bags, bubble wrap, air pillows used in shipping boxes, grocery bags, Prime shippers, cereal bags, bread bags, newspaper bags, produce bags, plastic wrapping and packaging and poly-bags. The Ridwell recycling service employees will then pick up the items.

Last year, the district collected 435 pounds of plastic film over just one week from all six of its schools.

As a thank you for collecting and recycling plastic film, Ridwell will donate $25 to the school of choice for each family that signs up for Ridwell’s porch pick-up service.
