Beginning July 16, the Mercer Island Library extended its hours by one hour on weekdays and will be open on Saturday and closed on Sunday. New hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Thursday and Friday; noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. The library is located at 4400 88th Ave. SE.

More than 20 Island residents are part of the 2023 graduating Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class. The city’s Emergency Management team held its final class and exercise of the seven-week course on June 26. Participants learned and tested essential preparedness skills, such as how to use a fire extinguisher, basic search and rescue, disaster medical and more.
