The Redmond Police Department sent a media release on Dec. 5 announcing the continued search for child victims from accused child sexual assault suspect Christopher Remsing.
The 30-year-old man was charged with two counts of attempted intercourse with a fictitious 6-year-old boy and with a fictitious 4-year-old girl, according to charging documents. Remsing is currently in custody at King County Correctional Facility on $750,000 bail.
The Kent resident was arrested on Sept. 12, when he arrived at a Redmond apartment intending to babysit a 6-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl.
However, the interactions between the undercover police officer posing as a single mother and Remsing was part of an undercover operation targeting sexual abuse of minors.
On Aug. 22, Remsing responded through text to a vague internet post about a babysitting position with a contact number posted by an undercover police officer.
The police officer responded to Remsing, asking to tell her more about himself.
“The defendant told the undercover officer that he works in a [Issaquah] hospital setting and has worked with children ‘1 on 1’ in settings as a sitter since he was 15 and has worked in classrooms and with special education settings. He also told the undercover his goal was to get into pediatric nursing,” according to the charging documents.
When the police officer and Remsing met in person, he clarified his sexual interests in her children. Remsing was made to believe the single mother was OK with a trade of sexual actions with her children as payment instead of money, according to the charging documents.
When Remsing arrived at the Redmond apartment on Sept. 12, he was arrested.
The police reported finding lubricant, condoms, toys and children’s movies in the backpack he had brought to the apartment.
According to the court documents, detectives executed a search warrant on Remsing’s vehicle and apartment, finding a Proliance Orthopedics work badge, condoms and children’s shoes, underwear, socks, swimwear and various other pieces of clothing in his vehicle. Detectives found similar items in his apartment, along with electronic devices containing images of sexual abuse against young children.
Remsing had a history of offering babysitting services to gain unsupervised access to young children, and preliminary investigations uncovered additional victims in the Puget Sound area, which has led to detectives believing there may be more, according to the media release.
“Remsing is known to travel through the King County and Snohomish County areas and maybe further to get close to children by building relationships with a family or attempting to babysit,” said Jill Green, the spokesperson with the Redmond Police Department.
When asked what precautions parents should take, Green said parents should use extra caution when searching online for a babysitter and encouraged parents to find a sitter through a trusted source, such as family and friends who know someone looking for childcare jobs.
“Ask for references and research the candidate on a web search engine and social media platforms,” Green said. “If possible, run a background check on the candidate.”
