Mercer Island police officers and the Bellevue police bomb squad responded to a resident’s call regarding the discovery of a grenade while cleaning out their garage on the afternoon of Feb. 9, according to a MI police report on social media.
At 2:50 p.m., police reported that the grenade was secured and removed from the scene near 91st Avenue Southeast and Southeast 47th Street and there was no safety concern.
Also on scene to help secure the live, World War II-era device were Eastside Fire & Rescue and the US Army’s 792nd Explosive Ordinance Battalion.
“Thank you to the skilled technicians who ensured it was secured and removed without incident,” police said.
