Mercer Island Chinese Association (MICA) announced a groundbreaking partnership with King County Library System’s Mercer Island Library to introduce a series of enriching cultural and arts programs to the local community.
The first event of this series, “How to Conduct a Tea Ceremony,” sponsored by Teafairy Culture and Art Center, is scheduled to take place at 12:30 p.m. on April 17 at the Mercer Island Library (4400 88th Ave. SE). All programs are free to the public and offered in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
Neighbors from all cultural backgrounds are welcome to join, participate, learn and experience. These programs offer an immersive and interactive experience, allowing participants to gain insight into Chinese and Asian customs while developing new skills and talents.
Following the tremendous success of its Lunar New Year celebration, which drew more than 1,500 attendees from Mercer Island and beyond, MICA continues its efforts to enrich the cultural landscape of Mercer Island. Through this partnership with Mercer Island Library, MICA seeks to further engage the community and celebrate the diversity of its residents.
“We are thrilled to partner with Mercer Island Library to bring these cultural and arts programs to our community,” said Fan Yuan, MICA board member. “These initiatives represent our commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding and celebrating the diversity of our community. Through these engaging activities, we hope to create meaningful connections and foster a sense of belonging for all residents.”
Other events will include: Traditional Chinese Etiquette (5:30 p.m. on May 7) and Su Embroidery (12:30 p.m. on June 14). Times and dates will be determined for Chinese Watercolor (Sumi) Painting, Calligraphy and Flower Arrangements.
