From aerospace scholars to musicians and more, Mercer Island High School (MIHS) students have excelled in their fields this year.
On the afternoon of May 13, MIHS Principal Nick Wold announced a bevy of student achievements while Islanders gathered in the school courtyard.
Wold said that MIHS possesses highly-decorated classes and students have much to be proud of.
Here’s some of the stellar students and their accolades:
* Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) who successfully completed the program’s five-month online curriculum: Dylan Hsu, Allison Huang, Alex Millman and Elliott Sato. Based on their outstanding participation in the course, they were invited to participate in the competitive WAS summer residency.
* Greg Chvany — Regional champion in the 2024 Poetry Out Loud Competition.
* Commended students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program: Harrison Benson, Isabella Biggs, Silas Burkey, Ethan Chang, Stella Chen, Gregory Chvany, Parker Gurney, Elliott Hoang, Tyler Hsu, Vittorio Latrofa, Justin Li, Callan Manson, Alex Martin, Daniel Mezistrano, Nandini Mishra, Luke Myklebust, Zoe Paek, Tanvi Penubothu, Alan Pham, Varenna Ronald, Joseph Ruan, Claire Ryu, Matthew Walzer, Jayden Wang, Keegan Wang, Karen Zhang and Maria Zhang.
* Certificate of Merit students who advanced to the finalist round in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program: Davin Aoyama (winner), Muye Fang, Hannah Goldstein, Andrew Joseph, Nicholas Klein, Elena Lill, Sol Park, Abhay Raj, Cameron Selby, Kathy Shao, Caleb Su, Gareth Tatum and Subhadra Vadlamannati (winner).
* Joseph Ruan and Elena Lill (semifinalist) — Eligible for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.
