July 28

Theft: Someone broke into a resident’s mailbox and stole a check in the 3800 block of West Mercer Way.

July 27

Theft: Police arrested two suspects for shoplifting at a business in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue Southeast.

Theft: In the 3800 block of West Mercer Way, someone broke into a bank of five mailboxes. No mail was stolen.

July 26

Vehicle prowl: A suspect was contacted after she was seen trying to open car doors in the 8400 block of Southeast 69th Place.

July 25

Theft: A porch package theft was caught on video in the 2900 block of 72nd Avenue Southeast.

July 23

Fraud: In the 3500 block of 90th Avenue Southeast, a dispute occurred between a former couple regarding finances and possible fraud.

July 22

Fraud: A resident in the 4600 block of 86th Avenue Southeast received a fraudulent call claiming she had a warrant for her arrest and needed to make payment. The scammer fooled the victim into sending money to a Venmo account that was made to resemble a bail bonds company.

* Scam alert: Mercer Island Police Department is alerting residents of frequent phone scammers who are duping victims into sending money via Venmo, gift cards and transferring money from their bank accounts to their Apple/Google pay accounts. After giving the scammer access to those accounts, the accounts become immediately drained of funds.
