Slippery Penguins waddle toward robotics title

Mercer Island High School’s freshman VEX Robotics Team, the Slippery Penguins, won the championship title on Nov. 23 at the annual Lake Stevens Turkey Trot Invitational Tournament. The team (10-2 overall at the event) overcame power outages, and the team’s hard work under flashlight conditions at times paid off with a trophy and a fresh turkey prize for Thanksgiving. They dominated the knockout stage with a 4-0 record, including a rematch in the final. The team of Harry Nguyen (captain), Til Wyss, Henry Xing, Zevi Danielli and Jeremy Leung were among the top 32 Washington high school teams competing at Cavelero Mid High School in Lake Stevens.
