The Islanders girls golf team qualified five girls to the state golf tournament in Richland, Wash. next week, the most in school history.
As a team Mercer Island tied for second second with Eastside Catholic School. Holy Names Academy took home the district title.
Lindsay Chinn, Alana Brooks, Sarah Peterson, Chelsee Saelee and Haley Chinn will attend the state tournament representing MIHS. Lindsay Chinn, Mercer Island’s only qualifier last year, placed 15, tying with teammate Peterson at 89 strokes. The team’s top places was Saelee taking seventh at 78 strokes, tying with Caitlin Rice from Nathan Hale. Haley Chinn came in 11 overall. Brooks finished 20th, qualifying as the first alternate for state. Only Jackie Pearson did not qualify for the state trip after placing 23rd.
Kristin Tan of Holy Names took home the individual title with a score of 74.
