Two young men from the Eastside were arrested for possessing and smoking marijuana after police stopped them for speeding in the 8000 block of North Mercer Way around midnight on Dec. 9. According to the police report, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and called in a drug-sniffing dog from the Kirkland Police to locate the drugs. Both men, 22, were processed and released at the scene.

Arrests

According to the police report, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and called in a drug-sniffing dog from the Kirkland Police to locate the drugs. Both men, 22, were processed and released at the scene.

A 16-year-old Islander was arrested and booked into juvenile hall for throwing a knife at his parents and threatening to kill them around 6 p.m. on Dec. 7. According to the police report, the teenager chased his mother out of their home the day before, wielding two knives.

Two Island teenagers, 18 and 19, were arrested around 10 p.m. on Dec. 5 after three younger teens came into the police station and said that the two Islanders had assaulted them, breaking their skateboards. Police found the suspect vehicle in the 3900 block of 88th Avenue S.E. The driver was also arrested for marijuana possession while his passenger was charged with minor in possession. Beer and wine were found in the car.

Arson

A small holiday tree about 2.5 feet tall was lit on fire in the middle of the road around 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the 9200 block of S.E. 68th Street. The fire department extinguished the flames, and police found a book of burnt matches nearby.

Robbery and assault

A 29-year-old woman from Seattle was at her work in the Town Center when she was assaulted and robbed by her ex-boyfriend during the afternoon of Dec. 8. According to the police report, the 27-year-old suspect showed up to the victim’s work in the 7900 block of S.E. 28th Street, but was told to leave. While heading out, the suspect passed the break room and snatched the woman’s purse. She then grabbed the purse and was dragged outside the building by the suspect. When a witness stepped in, the suspect let go of the purse and fled the scene.

Thefts

A 21-year-old Islander’s wallet was stolen during a house party in the 7100 block of S.E. 29th Street in the early hours of Dec. 6. One of the victim’s credit cards was later used three times the following day. According to the incident report, the unauthorized charges were made in the Kent and Des Moines area, but the exact amounts spent were unknown at the time of the report.

Tons of ski and snowboard equipment were stolen from an Islander’s storage shed in a burglary that occurred in the Shorewood Heights Apartments during the night of Dec. 7. According to the incident report, the shed was locked and several doors showed signs of tampering. The total value is estimated to be more than $700.

A GPS unit, worth $250, was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle parked near the owner’s home in a car prowl that took place during the night of Dec. 7 in the 2200 block of 78th Avenue S.E.

An unknown man attempted a return scam at the North-end QFC to get some cash around 11 p.m. on Dec. 7. According to the incident report, the suspect entered the store, grabbed a new case of Keystone beer from the aisle shelf and then took it to the register with an old receipt to return it. The receipt was from Nov. 29, and the price and product matched.

An iPod was stolen from an unattended handbag at Mercer Island High School around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 4.

Burglary

Cash and a check were stolen from the top of a desk in an apartment during a burglary that occurred during the evening of Dec. 10 in the 3000 block of 81st Place S.E. According to the incident report, the 25-year-old victim came home and found her apartment door unlocked.

Found drugs

A small amount of hash was found by an Islander walking his dog around 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 8 in the 2800 block of 75th Place S.E.

Lost wallet

A 56-year-old Seattle man told police that he lost his wallet while fishing at Luther Burbank Park during the evening of Dec. 7.

Vandalism

The right front tires of two company vehicles parked outside of Invisible Fence NW in the Town Center were punctured and flattened sometime between Dec. 6 and 8.

Graffiti was spraypainted onto the wall of the covered playground at West Mercer Elementary School during the weekend of Dec. 6-8.
