Mercer Island/Bellevue softball fall to Southeast at World Series

During this morning match up between the Bellevue/Mercer Island softball team at the Junior Softball World Series and the West Tampa Little League, the host team lost 7-1.

During this morning match up between the Bellevue/Mercer Island softball team at the Junior Softball World Series and the West Tampa Little League, the host team lost 7-1.

The team from Florida, gained an early single run lead, before Bellevue/Mercer Island tied the game. Then in the sixth inning Southeast exploded on the boards as Nikki Lopez hit a bases loaded triple to give Tampa the edge.

The District 9 hosts of the JSWS beat the Canadian team from Ontario 23-1 Monday night.

On Sunday afternoon, the team from Mercer Island and Bellevue faced the reigning champions Latin America, a team from Puerto Rico. The local girls lost 16-1.

The team will play Southeast, out of Tampa Flordia, at 11 a.m. this morning at Everest Park in Kirkland.

The hosts are 1-1 in the tournament so far, the top four teams in each of the two pools move on to bracket play on Friday afternoon.
