Mail theft A Bellevue man and woman were arrested earlier this month in possession of mail belonging to four Island residents in the 5000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. the 7800 block of 81st Place S.E., the 7800 block of 85th Place S.E., and the 8400 block of 85th Avenue S.E. An unauthorized credit card issued in one of the victim’s names also was found in the suspects’ possession. The card had been used at a Bellevue gas station. Fraud An Island resident reported losing his credit card Aug. 7 at the Shell gas station in the 2900 block of 78th Avenue S.E. A $500 purchase had since been made on the card. The resident canceled the credit card. Vehicle prowls Someone stole a cellular phone and wallet that contained a driver’s license, credit cards and $150 from a Pontiac Grand Prix parked in the 7000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The victim was visiting from California. Between 6:30 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. Aug. 4, two unlocked Subaru vehicles in the 3800 block of 80th Avenue S.E. were entered and someone stole keys and a purse that contained a wallet with identification and a bank card. Assault A 32-year-old Redmond woman was arrested at about 8 p.m., Aug. 7, after she assaulted her boyfriend, a 35-year-old Seattle man, in the 3000 block of 69th Avenue S.E. The man had several scratches and bruises. The woman was arrested and transported to Renton Jail for booking. Vandalism A resident reported at 9 a.m., Aug. 6, that someone threw a rock and glass bottle at a Volvo 850 and a BMW 535 parked in front of a residence in the 7400 block of 85th Place S.E. Damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,300.
DUI arrest A 50-year-old Island woman was arrested at 10 p.m., Aug. 5, at her home in the 6900 block of S.E. 34th Street after off duty Seattle police officers observed her driving erratically on Interstate 90. The woman’s car, reportedly crossed lanes, almost hit a Jersey barrier and another vehicle before she exited I-90 at West Mercer Way. The police officers followed the suspect to her residence and she was arrested after failing a field sobriety test. She initially resisted arrest, but was subdued and transported to the Mercer Island Police Department. After she was released, the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office and the department of licensing. Property damage A Seattle police patrol vehicle was damaged while an off duty officer was visiting family on the Island. The car had been parked in front of a residence in the 4500 block of 88th Avenue S.E. shortly after midnight, Aug. 5. When the officer returned to the vehicle, at about 1 p.m. Aug. 5, the windshield and spotlight were smashed. Vending machines vandalized Between 9 p.m., Aug. 3, and 6 a.m., Aug. 4, someone broke into a Coke vending machine in the 7600 block of Sunset Highway. There was $500 damage to the machine.
Two male juveniles were arrested at about 3:30 a.m. Aug. 5 as they were breaking into vending machines on the west side of Islander Middle School, 8225 S.E. 72nd St. Police had responded to a report of noise at the school. A third suspect, also a male juvenile, fled on foot. The boys, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, live on the Island. The third boy, a 15-year-old, is from North Carolina.
