Summer Celebration was a sizzling success. While temperatures soared, many people found cool relief at the Junior Art Show, which decorated the lobby of Wells Fargo Bank. Mercer Island Visual Arts League (MIVAL), together with Wells Fargo Bank, sponsored the annual Junior Art Show to showcase and promote young artists from grades Kindergarten through twelve interested in drawing, painting, sculpture and photography.
The show has been a MIVAL event for 40 years. This year, the show received nearly sixty entries and awarded winners close to $800 in cash and gift certificate prizes.
Financial support for the Junior Art Show comes from MIVAL members and private donors, Wells Fargo Bank, Hennie McPennie Children’s Shoes, Cascade Frames, Mercer Island Florist, Island Books, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt and Terra Bella.
Northwest Yeshiva High School student Yoela Zimberoff won the Island Books Award for her painting “Owl” which is currently on exhibit at Island Books in the children’s section at the book shop.
Delanie Clark, an incoming senior at Mercer Island High School, took first place for her multi-layered ceramic piece, “Volkswagen” (contributed photo).
