The man who crashed into a house after evading a police stop is the same suspect who burglarized a house after smashing out a window the night before Christmas Eve. The suspect, Chad Richard Zachariasen, 50, broke through the kitchen window of a house in the 4600 block of 90th Avenue S.E. between 9 and 10 p.m. on Dec. 23. Jewelry, a laptop and prescription medicine were stolen. Zachariasen evaded a police stop near the 6000 block of Island Crest Way in a van without taillights, as police responded to a nearby house alarm. The van sped down dead-end 84th Avenue, where it crashed into a residence at the end of the street. Police are seeking the suspect, a Seattle resident. Charges include one count of attempting to elude a police vehicle, one count of malicious mischief in the first degree (damage to private property), and one count of hit and run, attended property damage.
That same night, two other homes were burglarized, including another home in the 4600 block of 90th Avenue S.E., where the burglar broke in from the deck, through a rear window above the dining room. The homeowner was away from town and police had to forcibly enter the house, damaging a door frame and lock in the process. The burglar destroyed the hall alarm and was not found. Theft of items could not be determined, and a construction contractor secured the house. Multiple items were stolen from a home in the 2700 block of 64th Avenue S.E., where a 2-by-4-foot window was broken. When the resident, a 54-year-old man, returned, he found that a burglar had stolen electronics equipment: a Motorola Droid phone, digital camera with accessories and case, external computer hard drive, laptop, 46-inch flatscreen TV and two Skagen men’s watches. $50 in Canadian currency was also stolen, along with a pair of eyeglasses and wine bottles.
Dec. 22
Runaway: A Mercer Island woman, 38, reported that her foster child ran away sometime after 5:30 p.m. The teenager, a 16-year-old white female, had run away several times before, and her suspected location was Ballard, Kirkland or Mercer Island.
Arrest: Police stopped a vehicle without taillights at 9:26 p.m. in the 9600 block of eastbound I-90. The driver, a Bellevue man, 34, was arrested after admitting he had marijuana in the pocket of his jacket. An odor of marijuana was evident in the vehicle. The driver surrendered a glass jar with green vegetable matter that later tested positive as marijuana. He signed a waiver of impound to leave his vehicle at the scene.
Dec. 24
Arrest: Police arrested a Seattle man, 47, at 9:35 a.m. in the 9600 block of eastbound I-90 after stopping him for a title violation. He had two MIPD warrants for driving with a suspended license: $2,000 cash only with the Auburn Police Department and $1,000 with the King County Sheriff’s Office. He was released to the KCSO on outstanding warrant.
Car prowl: A new pair of boots was stolen out of a car at a residence in the 4400 block of Ferncroft Road sometime overnight. An unknown suspect broke the rear passenger door window of the vehicle, a BMW. The boots were black leather, over-the-knee.
Car prowl: An unknown suspect broke the window out of a vehicle, a GM Corps Yukon, in the 4700 block of East Mercer Way sometime overnight. No items were reported missing.
Pedestrian hit: A Mercer Island man, 67, witnessed a vehicle hit a pedestrian in the north QFC parking lot at 10:27 a.m. The vehicle, a gray Honda, backed out of a stall into the pedestrian, a 94-year-old Mercer Island woman. The witness said the vehicle “barely tapped the pedestrian and she went down.” Apparently unaware of the collision, the driver left. The vehicle’s license plate number was not obtained. The woman sustained a cut on her head and was taken to Swedish Hospital.
Car prowl: The front passenger window of a vehicle, a BMW, was broken out at a residence in the 9500 block of S.E. 43rd Street sometime overnight. A wallet was stolen, including a Washington driver’s license, debit card and cash.
Recovered items: A Mercer Island man, 60, reported finding stolen property dumped at the side of the road at 9:30 a.m. near his residence in the 4400 block of Ferncroft Road. The property belonged to victims of an Auburn car prowl. Items included a black leather brief case, prescription medication and hormone therapy patches. Fingerprints will be taken from a three-ring binder.
Car prowl: The rear windows of a Nissan Xterra were smashed out sometime after 2 p.m., Dec. 22, in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way. An amplifier and subwoofer were both stolen. The owner, a 22-year-old resident of Missoula, Mont., reported the incident at 1:24 p.m.

Car prowl: The rear quarter window of a vehicle was broken sometime after 9:30 p.m., Dec. 23, in the 4900 block of East Mercer Way. No items were stolen from the vehicle, a Volkswagen Bug. A man, 35, reported the incident at 9:45 a.m. on Christmas morning.
Dec. 26
Forgery: A 65-year-old Mercer Island man’s check was forged after being mailed from the Mercer Island post office. The man, who reported the forgery at 7:30 p.m., had mailed the check to Edmonds on Dec. 23. The suspect, a Lake Stevens man, 33, changed the name on the check and changed the amount to $200, then tried to cash it. Moneytree, in Everett, informed the victim of the forgery, and the check number was confirmed to match.
Dec. 27
Bar incident: A Seven Star bar employee reported an “unwanted subject” who refused to leave the bar in the 2800 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The man, a 49-year-old Redmond resident, left when police arrived. Police arrested him outside the bar at 9:37 p.m. He was noticeably intoxicated and had a warrant for DUI, driving with a suspended license, and amount of bail at $5,000 with the Bellevue Police Department. He was transferred to Bellevue police custody.
Dec. 28
Wallet found: A wallet with a Colorado driver’s license was found by a 39-year-old man at 3:50 p.m. near the Luther Burbank dog park. The wallet contained several cards and a debit card. The owner, a 26-year-old resident of Boulder, Colo., could not be contacted. The man turned it in to the MIPD.
