Police Blotter | More car prowls in Luther Burbank lot

Islanders also report abandoned vehicles, burglary and thefts.

November 13

Collision: A driver traveling southbound at the 4500 block of Island Crest Way and waiting in a turn lane to go left on to 86th Avenue S.E. was hit by a second vehicle turning left on to Island Crest Way. The vehicle of the first driver had to be towed, and the second driver was cited for inattention.

November 24

Collision: A driver of a Mercedes 230 stated that she was parked in a fire lane in the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive. She dropped off a passenger, put her car in reverse and backed into another car. The collision was non-injury and non-blocking, and the Mercedes driver was cited for inattention.

Collision: A witness stated that a driver going eastbound on S.E. 40 Street “rolled through” the stop sign controlling the intersection of 78th Avenue S.E. and collided with another car that was already in the intersection.

November 25

Theft: A 57-year-old Seattle man was caught by the Albertson’s Loss Prevention team stealing a bottle of Jack Daniel’s, a Seahawks T-shirt and a bottle of ibuprofen at the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E. He was arrested, cited and released.

Informational report: Starbuck’s Towing responded to the MI Condos to remove a vehicle, at the manager’s request, that had been parked in another tenant’s spot since the day before. The car was found to be reported stolen and was towed to an impound lot.

November 26

Abandoned vehicle: A Chevrolet Tahoe was found abandoned and stuck on the soft shoulder of the 4800 block of East Mercer Way, partially blocking the road. Police were unable to locate the driver or contact the registered owner, and the car was impounded by Ibsen.

November 29

Warrant arrest: Police picked up a 25-year-old Island man from King County Jail on a misdemeanor warrant for driving with a suspended license. He was transported to Issaquah Jail.

December 1

Informational report: A 45-year-old Island man at the 3500 block of 90th Avenue S.E. reported that the side of his vehicle was scratched, causing $200 worth of damage.

Collision: An officer was dispatched to the intersection of 80th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 27th Street for a non-injury collision. Two vehicles appeared to have collided with each other at the same time, and the officer was unable to determine which approached the intersection first, so no fault could be determined at the scene. One of the vehicles, which had damage on the driver side front bumper, was towed.

Burglary: An unknown suspect broke into a home at the 4300 block of East Mercer Way, smashing the glass window of a French door at the rear of the house to gain entry. The entire house had been gone through, with drawers opened in all rooms, but many items of value were bypassed and only two computers are known to have been taken. It’s suspected that a large amount of jewelry was also taken, but a precise list of items isn’t available.

December 2

Theft: A 38-year-old Island woman reported someone hiding a bag of something at the 3000 block of 78th Avenue S.E. Police contacted the subject, a 30-year-old Seattle man, who admitted to stealing food from QFC and other items from Rite Aid, for a total value of $414.68. He was arrested, processed and booked.

Warrant arrest: Police arrested a 36-year-old Kent woman at the 7200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. after she was stopped for speeding and found to have a warrant from the Kent Police Department. Kent PD took custody of the subject. Amount of bail is $5,100.

December 3

Prowling: Three separate victims – a 33-year-old Lynnwood man, a 26-year-old Seattle woman and a 24-year-old Seattle man – lost wallets, contents and one cell phone in vehicle prowls in the north lot of Luther Burbank Park.

 

Crime Stats for November

Every month, the Police Department calculates crime statistics. In November of this year, there were 82 serious offenses, compared to 55 in 2013. The department saw increases in burglaries, thefts and assaults. The theft category includes first, second and third degree offenses, as well as mail theft and vehicle prowls. There were 18 adult arrests in 2014, and 11 in 2013, and no juvenile arrests in either year. Police received 1,394 calls for service this November, compared to 1,110 in 2013.
