The Mercer Island baseball team spring season came to an end last week during the KingCo tournament.
The tournament began on Tuesday, May 7, when Mercer Island beat Liberty 8-3.
On Thursday, May 9 the Islanders took on the No. 2 team Mount Si in the semifinals. The Wildcats won 5-0 over Mercer Island to push the Islanders into the consolation bracket.
On Saturday, May 11, the Islanders beat Juanita 9-6, earning one last chance to play for a chance to go to the state tournament.
In the win, Nick Chandler was 1-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Steven Petrie was 1-4 with one RBI. Mack Schlamp was 2-3, scoring two runs with one RBI, as was Jake Stenberg. Matt Orehek was 1-3 with one run, as was Karsten Sherman. Aidan Plummer pitched for three innings, allowing three hits and striking out one.
The Islanders faced off against Bellevue, which lost to Mount Si in the KingCo title game, on Saturday afternoon. Bellevue won 4-1, ending Mercer Island’s season.
Against Bellevue, Isak Morris pitched for just over three innings, allowing four this with two runs and two errors. Chandler was 2-4 at the plate, Schlamp was 1-3 with 1 RBI and Stenberg was 1-3. Sean Casey was 1-3 at the plate with one run.
The Islanders finished the season with a 13-11 overall record.
