Mercer Island takes Interlake 48-21

Mercer Island beat the Interlake Saints football team Friday night, with a 48-21 win at home. The Islanders got off to a quick start, scoring their first touchdown in the last 30 seconds of the first quarter after Interlake's attempt at a field goal earlier in the quarter was no good.

The Islanders got off to a quick start, scoring their first touchdown in the last 30 seconds of the first quarter after Interlake’s attempt at a field goal earlier in the quarter was no good.

Interlake tied the game with 7:23 left in the second for a 7-7 match, before another MI touchdown with 2:48 left in the half. The Islanders never trailed again during the game.

Quarterback Jeff Lindquist threw a touchdown pass to Kyle Reitinger with 3.6 left in the half to give Mercer Island a 21-7 lead.

Nick Sinclair started off the second half with a huge sprint down field off the Interlake kick for a 28-7 ball game. But Interlake found their own steam with a 30-yard throw to bring the Saints to 14 points.

Sinclair scored his second touchdown of the night three minutes later off a pass from Lindquist to push the Islanders up seven more point for a 34-14 lead. It was Alex Rorem’s turn next off a pass to make it a 41-14 lead for the Islanders going into the end of the third quarter.

In the final 12 minutes of the game Mercer Island scored again, with 7:30 left to play, making it 48-14 overall.

But Interlake wasn’t done yet, scoring their last points of the game with just 1:49 left on the clock to make it 48-21.

The Islanders will travel to Bellevue next Friday for a 7 p.m. away game.
