The 292-member Islander band heard the news over the public address system from their band director, Parker Bixby, during the third quarter of the MIHS home football game Friday evening. The Islander band is also appearing this coming January 1, in the 2011 London New Year’s Day Parade. The Islander band has marched before in the Rose Parade. Its most recent appearance was in the 2006 parade where it rained for the first time at the nationally televised event in 50 years.
