Letter | Those who benefit from SR-520 should pay for it

I recall the political activity that led to the construction of the Evergreen Point aka SR-520 bridge, 50-plus years ago.

I recall the political activity that led to the construction of the Evergreen Point aka SR-520 bridge, 50-plus years ago. The landowners and realtors in the SR-520 service area were prime movers and ultimately the beneficiaries of the route. The dramatic development of the areas east and north of Evergreen Point has been a financial bonanza for them.

The bridge serves that area, but not Mercer Island. We should not have to pay tolls on I-90. Instead, I propose that the reconstruction of the 520 bridge be paid for by a property tax on the residents and businesses in the area served.
